Azerbaijani official meets with Chair of UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women

Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children's Issues, Bahar Muradova, met with the Chair of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, Nahla Haidar, at the UN headquarters in New York.

During the meeting, Muradova provided information on Azerbaijani war prisoners, missing persons, and hostages as a result of Armenia’s 30-year military aggression.

She stated that during the First Karabakh War, 4,844 Azerbaijani citizens went missing, including 321 women and 54 children. The chairperson of the committee noted that during Armenia’s prolonged aggression against Azerbaijan, fueled by baseless territorial claims, hundreds of women and children were taken hostage, killed, and subjected to torture.

Haidar emphasized the importance of providing documentation and concrete facts for conducting investigations on this matter. She expressed readiness for closer cooperation with Azerbaijan to clarify the fate of the missing Azerbaijanis.

The parties exchanged views on various important issues and discussed opportunities for further productive cooperation between the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children's Issues.
